It will be Safin’s first time of appearance to AIG Japan Open. His dynamic service and stroke lead him to win the first Grand Slam Title at US Open in 2000, and the second Grand Slam Title at Australian Open this year. Safin’s wild manner, such as slamming about ten of his rackets in one tournament, has been settled down and keeps his calmness as well as his ranking in top ten.

The left ankle injury at the season ending last year forced her to be insufficient condition status till the early this year. Though the results of the early this year were not satisfactory, she has regained her form this summer. Being the finalist at the San Diego tournament (Tier I) for the first time this year, which put her smile back again. She will return to AIG Open after 2 years absence. We can expect her victory again since 1998.

Nakamura lost at the Qualifying 1st RD at Grand Slams in 2004, however, she participated Main Draw for Wimbledon this season. Nakamura’s breakthrough starts from August 2004, her first time of winning of $50000 as a professional at Louisville, USA. Also, in September, she beats SUGIYAMA at Tier III in Bali. Nakamura’s weapon is her both hand for fore and back, and angle with cross and down the line. Always smiling, but she has guts during the match.
